Many young professionals in the today’s technology-related workforce credit VirginiaFIRST with introducing them to their careers. FIRST programs not only taught them technical skills, but also allowed them to work side by side with volunteer mentors, who passed along a glimpse of career choices and educational opportunities and opened a door for their futures. While working with fellow students under the guidance of committed adults, alumni learned the value of communication, time management, research, and hard work - while developing leadership, self-confidence, and the teamwork skills that make them valuable employees.
